Hospice Of Eastern MaineLINCOLN, Maine — Hospice of Eastern Maine (HOEM) is recruiting caring men and women in the greater Lincoln and Katahdin regions – from Greenbush to Millinocket – to companion neighbors who are terminally ill and their families as hospice volunteers.

HOEM volunteers are compassionate individuals from all walks of life who share their time and friendship with people, who have a limited life expectancy, and their families. HOEM volunteers provide comfort services in partnership with Community Health and Counseling Services Hospice in the greater Lincoln and Katahdin regions. Hospice volunteers are valuable members of an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care.

Contingent upon a minimum enrollment of 6 trainees, HOEM will offer a 20-hour fall volunteer training course on five consecutive Thursdays, September 12th ~ October 10th, 12:30 – 4:30 p.m., at the Lincoln CHCS Office, Floor 2 Conference Room, 313 Enfield Road, Lincoln. This comprehensive training course will help participants better understand the dynamics of the end-of-life process and prepare them to effectively cialis online price provide companionship, emotional support, respite, and bereavement care for hospice patients and their families.

Hospice care is holistic and focuses on the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of hospice patients and their caregivers. Trained professionals provide the physical, psych-social, and spiritual aspects of care while hospice volunteers offer companionship and comfort care, such as, actively listening, talking, playing games, reading, writing letters, recording memoirs, preparing meals, or driving to appointments. Volunteers are usually assigned to serve only one patient and family at a time.
